BWA continues to have strong business results even in the economic decline through new technology advances and a focus on the water additives segment. BWA provides scale, corrosion and microbiocide technologies and services to the industrial water treatment, desalination and oilfield industries. ICIS Chemical Business reports, “In part, the growth will result from continued expansion in the water purification market, which contributes 40% of BWA’s revenues,” says Paul Turgeon president and chief operating officer. “About 100 water purification plants will be coming on line over the next 12–18 months in Australia, India, China and the Middle East.” BWA has committed to providing leading technology in the water purification segment while also focusing on a number of new product offerings planned to launch in 2009 including a new blockbuster biocide by mid-2010. ISIC Chemical Business reports, “ BWA’s biocide Bellacide 350, which is three to six times more effective than alternatives, is an example of such a product, he says.” While the product has taken off in the marketplace in the last two years, a second-generation version of Bellacide 350 that offers greater effectiveness is targeted to launch in the next 12–18 months.
